Bird Technologies Model 614 Digital Signal Booster Increases Coverage for Land Mobile & Public Safety Communications Systems

SOLON, OH, November 12, 2015--Bird Technologies, a leading provider of RF components, subsystems, test equipment, and services, today introduced the 614 Series digital signal boosters designed to increase the signal strength of land-mobile and public safety communications systems operating at either 450 to 470 MHz or 470 MHz to 488 MHz. The highly configurable system combines the benefits of programmable digital RF filters, the cryptographic and other security benefits of the SNMPv3 control protocol, browser-based configuration and management, the ability to view changes to filter characteristics while viewing their effects in real-time, and many other features.

The rugged 614 Series signal boosters are housed in NEMA 4 type enclosures, making them an excellent choice for use in stadiums, airports, office buildings, hospitals, tunnels, and any place lacking adequate signal coverage. They are fully certified to meet FCC and Industry Canada certifications as either Class A or Class B boosters depending on their configuration, and provide exceptional spectral purity. The 614 Series also provides up to 28 programmable RF filters each for the uplink and downlink paths and allows the user to configure their center frequency, bandwidths from 6.25 kHz to 1.5 MHz, and other characteristics in real-time. Custom filter shapes can also be created to meet specific application requirements.

The system also allows the relevant area of RF spectrum to be viewed including interfering signals, while simultaneously overlaying filter characteristics and their effects. Complete control and configurability are orchestrated with any computer on an Ethernet network or virtually anywhere that Web access is available.

The highest level of control security is provided by the latest SNMP protocol (Version 3), which includes DES encryption and authentication, and other features include pilot signal injection that enables quick assessment of system performance, and the ability to detect and mitigate signal oscillation conditions.

The 614 Series has an RF output of +32 dBm in high power mode and +22 dBm in low-power mode with a maximum RF input power up to -20 dBm, gain of up to 95 dB, operates over a temperature range of -30° C to +60° C, measures 30 x 20 x 10 in. weighs 95 lb., and operates from either +24 VDC or 90 to 240 VAC supplies. Custom models are available on request.
